Key Indian Players Miss Sri Lanka Test Series Due to Ongoing Injuries
India’s lineup for the upcoming Sri Lanka Test series has been heavily altered as a number of frontline performers remain sidelined. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out after a thorough medical assessment confirmed that he needs more time to achieve full fitness. Left‑handed top‑order batsman Sai Sudharsan, still nursing pain in his right‑foot toe, will miss the first Test and has a slim chance of appearing in the second.
Additional injuries continue to affect the squad. Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar and Akashdeep Singh are all engaged in rehabilitation programmes at the COE. Veteran all‑rounder Hardik Pandya and mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy are also undergoing treatment, stretching the board’s resources.
The injury tally underscores the urgency of the recent meeting between BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia and head coach VVS Lakshman, who are working with the COE’s sports‑science team to fast‑track recoveries before the series begins.
