Kerala govt’s 2025 Messi tour under special investigation

On August 13, Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the contested efforts to bring Lionel Messi and the Argentina football team to the state in 2025. The order led to the formation of a Special Investigation Team tasked with uncovering any procedural lapses.

The SIT’s mandate includes examining the issuance of clearances, the financial paperwork behind the project, and the role of officials who facilitated the planning stage. It will also verify whether any overseas travel expenses claimed under the venture complied with regulatory norms.

The investigation is expected to shed light on whether public resources were misused or if any quid‑pro‑quo arrangements influenced the decision‑making process.
