Josh Inglis fractures finger, out of ODI series, eyes Test return

During the first One‑Day International against South Africa in Durban, Australian wicket‑keeper batsman Josh Inglis fractured his right index finger. The injury occurred while he was keeping wicket, and he later went in to bat at number six, where he could add only three runs before retiring hurt. Australia suffered a 67‑run loss.

The Australian Cricket Board announced that Inglis will return home for medical scans and a rehabilitation programme. His participation in the three‑match Test series slated for next month will depend on his recovery and further assessment.

Alex Carey, who acted as a specialist fielder in the match, is expected to resume wicket‑keeping duties for the second ODI at Johannesburg's Wanderers Stadium. The lack of a fit backup for Inglis ahead of the Tests could force selectors to look at other options if his recovery is delayed.
