Josephine Nkomo Takes Charge of Zimbabwe Women’s Team

Harare – After the retirement of long‑time women's captain Mary‑Annie Musonda, the Zimbabwe Cricket Board appointed all‑rounder Josephine Nkomo as the new leader of the female national side. Nkomo, who has been a regular feature in the team as a batting and bowling option, steps into the role with a mandate to build on the team’s historic performance at the ICC Women’s Championship.

Nomvelo Sibanda, a left‑arm fast bowler, has been selected as Nkomo’s vice‑captain, creating a complementary leadership duo that blends experience with youthful vigor. The board’s decision follows a comprehensive review by the cricket committee and received unanimous approval at the Harare meeting.

Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhalani remarked that captaincy extends beyond on‑field tactics; it requires honesty, determination and the ability to motivate players. He expressed confidence that Nkomo, supported by Sibanda, will uphold these standards and guide the women’s team toward further success on the international stage.
