Joginder Sharma: A Short International Career With a Big Moment

Joginder Sharma's international career was brief, but one moment has ensured his place in Indian cricket history. His final over in the 2007 T20 World Cup final against Pakistan helped India win its first T20 world championship.

Joginder was born on 23 October 1983 in Rohtak, Haryana. Limited resources did not stop him from pursuing his cricketing dream, and he trained hard to reach the highest level.

In domestic cricket, he made a strong start against Madhya Pradesh, taking 11 wickets for 84 runs and scoring 81 runs. Over his 77 first-class matches, he took 297 wickets and scored 2,804 runs.

He debuted for India in 2004 against Bangladesh, bowling eight overs for 28 runs and claiming one wicket. He made his T20 debut in 2007 against England, the match in which Yuvraj Singh hit six sixes in an over bowled by Stuart Broad. Joginder bowled four overs without taking a wicket and gave away 57 runs.

In the final against Pakistan, MS Dhoni gave Joginder the last over, with Pakistan requiring 13 runs from six balls. Joginder conceded a six, but on the third ball he dismissed Misbah-ul-Haq, securing India's title.

He was not included in the squad for the final, despite his heroics. Across his career, he played four ODIs and four T20 Internationals, picking up one ODI wicket and four T20I wickets. His final ODI was against the West Indies on 24 January 2007, and he did not return to the Indian team afterward.
