Italian Star Sinner Skips Masters 1000 to Focus on Recovery

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will not travel to the Cincinnati Masters 1000 after his doctors identified a right‑knee issue that requires immediate attention. The decision was confirmed by the event’s organizing committee on August 10.

Sinner, 24, entered the season with a win at Wimbledon and planned to use the Cincinnati tournament as a stepping stone toward the US Open. However, ongoing knee discomfort forced him to prioritize health over competition.

In his official statement, Sinner said, "After thorough discussions with my medical team, I have to accept that my knee is not fit for the demands of a Masters 1000 event at this moment. I remain focused on recovering fully for the US Open."

The withdrawal diminishes an already thin lineup, as compatriot Carlos Alcaraz has also withdrawn due to a wrist injury. Analysts note that Sinner now has just over two weeks to rehabilitate before the US Open’s main draw opens on August 30.

While disappointed, Sinner remains optimistic about his long‑term prospects and looks forward to returning stronger next season.
