Punjab Kings pulled off a stunning six-wicket triumph over Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2026’s 17th match, chasing 220 with flair and firepower. Skipper Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 69 off 33 balls not only clinched the game but also etched his name in IPL history by eclipsing David Warner’s captaincy record.

Warner had notched five half-centuries as captain in chases exceeding 200 runs, but Iyer’s sixth such knock against SRH now stands alone at the top. The elegant right-hander’s innings, laced with five fours and five sixes, turned the tide in a match that tested PBKS’s mettle.

Iyer’s partnerships were the game-changers. He added 69 runs in 35 balls with Nehal Wadhera, rescuing the innings at a critical juncture. Then, with Shashank Singh, he unleashed 26 runs off 16 balls to finish unbeaten, ensuring a comfortable win.

The innings began explosively with openers Prabhsimran Singh (51 off 25) and Priyansh Arya (57 off 20) piling on 99 runs for the first wicket. Arya’s onslaught included five fours and five sixes, setting an aggressive tone right from the start.

SRH’s batting revolved around Abhishek Sharma’s sensational 74 off 28 deliveries, boasting a staggering strike rate of 264 with five boundaries and eight maximums. Travis Head made 38 off 23, and Heinrich Klaasen chipped in with 39 off 33, but their 219 for six fell short against PBKS’s relentless pursuit.

Iyer’s record-breaking performance underscores his growing stature as an IPL captain, blending tactical acumen with match-winning batting.
