IOA Plans Nationwide Squash Court Expansion with Minimal Investment

The Indian Olympic Association has announced a strategic plan to expand squash infrastructure across the nation without requiring heavyweight capital spending. According to CEO Raghuram Ayyar, the focus will be on installing temporary, modular courts that can be set up quickly in public venues.

“These courts are designed for rapid deployment and can be assembled with basic materials, keeping costs low while delivering a full‑size playing surface,” Ayyar explained during a ceremony held with the Health and Community League (HCL) Squash.

The collaboration with the national federation aims to identify districts with high demand and limited existing facilities. Once a location is selected, local authorities will receive a kit containing prefabricated panels, netting and lighting solutions, enabling a turnkey solution within days.

The IOA believes that this model will democratise access to squash, allowing children and adults in remote or under‑served areas to train without travelling long distances. The association plans to monitor utilisation rates and gather feedback to refine the rollout strategy.

By reducing financial barriers, the IOA hopes to foster a robust grassroots ecosystem that can feed talent into state and national programs, ultimately strengthening India’s prospects on the world stage.
