Investigation Launched Into BFI's 2026 Championship Cancellation Probe

An internal inquiry has been launched by the Boxing Federation of India to examine the circumstances surrounding the abrupt cancellation of the Elite Men and Women Open Boxing Championship 2026. The tournament, planned for August 16‑23 in Nahan, Himachal Pradesh, was called off amid allegations of financial irregularities and procedural lapses.

The probe has drawn scrutiny to the federation’s Secretary General, Pramod Kumar, who is accused of obstructing the investigation and issuing threatening notices to deter witnesses. The BFI’s letter to Kumar states that his non‑cooperation threatens the integrity of the organization and its scheduled events.

Kumar, who earlier moved a no‑confidence motion against President Ajay Singh, is now under an interim suspension pending the outcome of the investigation. The suspension bars him from exercising any authority, communicating on behalf of BFI, or influencing the investigative process.

BFI officials emphasized that the interim measure is a safeguard and not a determination of guilt. The federation pledged that the inquiry will follow due process, and any findings will be acted upon according to its constitution and governing rules.
