Inter Miami Edge New England Revolution 2-1 Thanks to Messi
Foxborough, November 2: Inter Miami came from behind to beat the New England Revolution 2-1, with Lionel Messi providing both a key assist and a decisive late strike. The result confirms Miami's qualification for the CONCACAF Champions Cup next season.
Miami's win puts them at number two in the Eastern Conference seedings ahead of the MLS Cup Playoffs. This season, Messi has 26 goals and 16 assists to his name. He is also leading the race for a third successive MLS MVP and a second straight Golden Boot.
The opening 45 minutes were evenly matched, and the scores remained level at halftime. Miami's best early opportunity arrived in the 28th minute, when Bertrame cut in from the left and fired a left-foot shot. New England goalkeeper Matt Turner pushed it away.
After the break, New England opened the scoring in the 53rd minute through Daniel Gazdag. Miami answered in the 69th minute with a fine team move. Segovia's lob into the box was headed on by Messi to Bertrame, who rose in the centre of the box and powered a header into the net. This was Bertrame's 10th goal of the regular season, and Messi's 16th assist of the league season.
The decisive moment came in the 83rd minute. Suarez played the ball to Messi on the edge of the box, and the Argentine forward dribbled past three defenders. Working alongside Segovia inside the area, Messi then sent a precise shot into the bottom right corner.
The goal lifted Messi to 26 for the season and top of the MLS 2026 Golden Boot standings. Segovia's regular-season assist count rose to 12. The 2-1 score held until full time, handing Inter Miami three points on the road.
