Innovative Centre Offers Performance Analytics and Rehabilitation Services in Shillong

Meghalaya’s sports landscape received a significant boost on 16 October when the High‑Performance Sports Science Centre opened its doors in Shillong. The centre, a joint venture with Innovative Futuristics Private Limited (AFL), brings together cutting‑edge performance analytics, comprehensive physical assessments, specialised conditioning, and state‑of‑the‑art rehabilitation services.

AFL, steered by Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra, presented its proposal to the state during the signing of the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP). The agreement reflects Meghalaya’s intent to create an integrated sports ecosystem that links grassroots talent discovery with elite athlete development.

Athletes and coaches now have access to biometric and biomechanical testing, motion analysis labs, and strength‑testing equipment all under one roof. These resources enable precise performance evaluation, identification of technical gaps, and the formulation of individualized training strategies.

The centre also dedicates significant resources to injury prevention and management. Tailored conditioning programmes and a fully equipped rehabilitation unit aim to reduce injury incidence, expedite recovery, and sustain athlete readiness for competition.

The government plans for the facility to cater to participants at every level—from emerging talents in community sports initiatives to seasoned competitors eyeing state, national and international championships. Chief Minister Sangma highlighted on X that a strong sports ecosystem begins with solid foundations, emphasizing that “the champions of tomorrow are built on the groundwork laid today.”
