Injury sidelines Shan Masood ahead of Pakistan-West Indies second Test

Pakistan’s plans for the second Test against the West Indies have been disrupted after opening batsman Shan Masood suffered a finger injury that rules him out of the match. The injury occurred in the first Test when a West Indian bowler’s delivery hit Masood’s index finger, causing significant pain and limiting his ability to play his usual role.

The Pakistan Cricket Board released a statement confirming that Masood will miss the August 2 encounter in Trinidad. Ongoing treatment and clinical evaluation will determine whether he can feature in the first Test against England later in August.

The first Test ended in a 90‑run defeat for Pakistan. Chasing 211, the side managed only 120 runs, with eight batsmen failing to reach double figures. Captain Babar Azam’s unbeaten 58 was the lone innings of substance.

Masood’s absence forces the team to consider alternative opening combinations, while the coaching staff will work to address the batting frailties exposed by the West Indian bowlers in the opening fixture.
