Inglis Returns With Century in Cape Town Test Against South Africa

Cape Town, October 29: Australia's Josh Inglis made a significant impact on his return to Test cricket, scoring 102 in the first innings of the third Test against South Africa at Newlands on Thursday. The knock also made him the first Australian with more than one international century in each of the three formats.

Inglis was back in the Test playing XI for the first time in nearly a year. He completed his century in 132 balls, with 2 sixes and 11 fours in his innings. It was his second Test hundred, following his debut-innings century against Sri Lanka in January 2025.

Only three Australians have scored more than one T20 International century. Along with Inglis, Glenn Maxwell has five and Aaron Finch has two. Neither Maxwell nor Finch has more than one century in any other format. Maxwell has four ODI hundreds and one in Tests. Finch has 17 ODI centuries and no Test century.

The batter was selected for the decisive match of the series. His last Test appearance had come during the 2025 Ashes. He had suffered a finger fracture during the previous ODI series against South Africa and had been recovering from it.

South Africa, who were put in to bat after losing the toss, made 329 in their first innings. Aiden Markram scored 78, Marcus Ackerman 95, David Bedingham 50 and Marco Jansen 50. Mitchell Starc took the best figures for Australia with 6 wickets for 72 runs.

Australia reached 411 for 8 in 117 overs. After losing four wickets for 185, Inglis and Alex Carey added 185 runs for the fifth wicket, which carried the side beyond 350.
