Indus‑inspired blazers highlight Indian contingent at Aichi‑Nagoya

At the opening ceremony of the Asian Para Games 2026 in Nagoya’s Paloma Mizuho Stadium, the Indian delegation caught the eye with distinctive attire. Each athlete wore a dark‑blue blazer edged with golden designs drawn from the Indus Valley Civilization.

The motifs include the celebrated Priest‑King statue, the iconic Dancing Girl, and a series of ancient seals, all symbolising a connection between modern sport and India’s deep historical roots.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded the athletes on X, stating that the nation feels immense pride in its para‑sportspersons whose resolve inspires millions. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also extended congratulations, emphasizing the team’s role in uplifting India’s reputation on the world stage.

The Indian squad comprises 168 competitors across eleven sports, with the largest contingents in para‑athletics (62) and para‑badminton (28). Over 45 nations and about 3,000 athletes are participating, and the Games will run through 24 October across 19 venues.
