In a bold move to transform Indian golf, the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) kicked off its Golf Growth Initiative Thursday, partnering with key bodies like the Indian Golf Union (IGU), PGAI, and TGF. Held at Delhi Golf Club, the launch signals a new chapter for the sport in India.
Leander Paes, the tennis legend, attended and voiced hopes for Olympic success through this venture. The program boasts mentorship from icons such as Jeev Milkha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa, and others, ensuring top-tier guidance for budding talents.
Central to the initiative is grassroots penetration—taking golf to schools and fields nationwide. This approach aims to identify and train young athletes from diverse backgrounds, positioning India to produce golfers who can compete globally.
IGPL’s announcement of state-of-the-art academies in Gurgaon, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh underscores commitment to infrastructure. These hubs will spot raw talent and equip them with pro-level resources.
Paes lauded the collaboration with golf stalwarts. Jeev Milkha Singh, with decades of experience, stressed the need for opportunities at the base level: ‘IGPL provides a mixed platform for all juniors—truly remarkable.’ He urged hard work and high standards.
Jyoti Randhawa highlighted youth empowerment as the core mission, foreseeing rapid platform evolution. Olympian Gaganjeet Bhullar reflected on Paris 2024, aspiring to return stronger and medal.
