India’s Medal Drought Continues After Loss to Pakistan
In the quarter‑final clash of the Asian Games men's volleyball tournament, India fell to Pakistan in three straight sets (25‑19, 25‑23, 25‑18) on October 1. The encounter was hosted at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium.
The contest started level at 11‑11, but Pakistan soon surged, taking a 5‑point run to lead 16‑11 and eventually win the first set 25‑19. A brief Indian rally put them ahead 19‑16 in the second set, yet a cascade of errors allowed Pakistan to level the match and finish the set 25‑23.
The third set saw Pakistan cement their dominance, finishing 25‑18 and booking a semi‑final berth. India had entered the quarterfinals after topping Pool C, dispatching Vietnam and Hong Kong 3‑0 each, and rallying from two sets down to beat Qatar 3‑2.
The defeat prolongs India's medal hiatus in Asian Games volleyball, which stretches back to a bronze medal win in Seoul 1986. Historically, India collected a silver in Jakarta 1962 and bronzes in Tokyo 1958 and Seoul 1986, while Pakistan’s sole Asian Games volleyball medal was a bronze in 1962.
