Indian Women's Cricketer Meghana Hangs Up Her Bat

Sabbineni Meghana, a former top-order batter for the Indian women's cricket team, has hung up her bat, announcing retirement from all formats of international and domestic cricket she had been involved in. The news came on Friday via her personal social media account.

Meghana had been part of the Indian squad that won silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, a milestone that remains among the highlights of her career.

In a message to followers, she called her first appearance on the world stage with a bat in hand and the Indian jersey on her a moment that felt like a dream come true. She said cricket had given her courage, taught her to stay humble and provided memories she would carry for the rest of her life.

She thanked her family for standing firmly beside her during tough times. She also appreciated the guidance of her coaches, teammates and support staff, who helped her push her limits.

Meghana recognised the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the Andhra Cricket Association, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Giants and RSPB for their steady support throughout her career. She said these organisations had given her the opportunities to pursue her passion at the highest level.

She signed off by saying that while her playing days may be over, her connection with the sport will remain strong. She intends to contribute to cricket by guiding young players and serving the game that she believes gave her everything. Meghana also thanked fans for their encouragement.

The 30-year-old from Andhra Pradesh played 3 ODIs and 17 T20 Internationals for India from 2016 to 2022. She managed 114 runs in ODIs, including one fifty, and 258 runs in T20Is, with one half-century.

She was also part of the Women's Premier League, featuring for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the franchise that won the tournament in 2024.
