Granada’s Las Gabias range witnessed Indian grit at the ISSF World Cup as Divya TS clinched fourth in women’s 25m pistol and debutant Gaganand Khandagale fifth in men’s 10m air rifle on Thursday.
Divya’s 28-score in her third World Cup final kept her medal hopes alive till the end. Gaganand scored 187.5, bowing out in a fiercely contested air rifle showdown. Rhythm Sangwan rounded off India’s efforts with seventh place.
The gold went to China’s Qiao Jia Ruijuan, who needed shoot-offs to separate from Kong Jiru after matching 39 hits. Poland’s Kamil Jedrzejewski snatched bronze from Divya with 34 hits in the penultimate series.
Qualifying highlights saw Rhythm’s 586 for fifth, Divya’s 585 for seventh over Agata Novak. Simranpreet lagged at 30th with 575.
Gaganand stunned with 634.3, second only to Viktor Lindgren by 0.2. Sheng Lihao’s 633.6 from fourth led to gold. Other Indians: Arshdeep 21st (629.5), Dhanush 23rd (629.2).
In the final, Gaganand’s early 10-ring start faded post-18th shot, trailing Ma Xihan by 0.1. Rakonjac’s silver and Lindgren’s bronze marked personal milestones.
The trio of Anjum Moudgil (592), Ayushi Poddar (587), and Surbhi Bhardwaj Rapole (582) cleared the women’s 50m 3P relay elimination, joining 58 of 75 in mains.
Eyes now turn to Friday’s 3P final, where India eyes podium glory.
