India Women Build 285‑Run Total on Day One at Lord's

London’s iconic Lord’s venue hosted the opening day of the women’s Test between India and England on July 11. India’s decision to bat yielded 285 runs before the team was dismissed. England’s early response was hampered by a quick loss of Tammi Beaumont for two runs, leaving them at 21 for one and 264 runs shy of the target.

The Indian batting order faced early setbacks. Shefali Verma fell without scoring, and Yastika Bhatia managed only 12 runs before bowled by Lauren Bell. The partnership between Jemima Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana turned the match, adding 64 runs for the third wicket in 72 balls. Rodrigues contributed 35 runs, while Mandhana’s 83 runs from 108 balls featured eleven fours and a six, anchoring the innings.

Captain Hermanpreet Kaur then took charge, adding 58 runs and forming a 89‑run stand with Mandhana for the fourth wicket. Deepthi Sharma supported the chase with 57 runs off 87 balls, hitting seven fours. The lower order collapsed, putting together just 95 runs for the last six wickets; both Richa Ghosh and Sneh Rana were limited to 13 runs each.

England’s bowlers made their mark, with Sophie Ecclestone capturing three wickets for 68 runs. Issy Wong and Molly Willis each secured two wickets, while Lauren Bell added one wicket to the tally.
