India’s spin quartet eyes new records as Kuldeep chases T20 century

Friday’s second Twenty‑20 International between India and West Indies will be played at Ranchi’s JSCA International Stadium. The spotlight is on left‑arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who needs just three wickets to finish the series with 100 T20 dismissals. After a tidy four‑over spell in Lucknow that yielded two wickets for 33 runs, Kuldeep’s tally rose to 97 wickets in 55 matches and 53 innings.

Achieving the three‑wicket target would slot Kuldeep as the fifth Indian bowler to claim a century of wickets in T20s, joining Arshdeep Singh (141 wickets), Jasprit Bumrah (126), Hardik Pandya (114) and Akshar Patel (111). Kuldeep already has two five‑wicket hauls to his credit, highlighting his ability to turn games.

Behind him, Yuzvendra Chahal sits on 96 wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who returned to the side after a four‑year gap for the New Zealand series, has 90 wickets. Both are edging toward the same milestone. The Ranchi match will therefore be a litmus test for India’s spin depth and a chance for Kuldeep to join the elite list of Indian T20 bowlers.
