India Set to Host BWF Worlds After 14 Years, Boosting Badminton Dream

The Badminton World Federation has confirmed that the upcoming World Championships will be staged in New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Stadium between 17 and 23 August. This will be India’s second time hosting the tournament, the first occasion having been the 2009 edition in Hyderabad.

Trupti Murugundhe, a former Indian representative at the 2009 championships, believes the event’s return signals a new era for Indian sport. She highlighted the surge in performance levels across multiple disciplines over the past decade and pointed to the successful execution of other global events on Indian soil as evidence of the country’s growing organizational capability.

Murugundhe stressed the importance of giving the current generation of shuttlers a home‑ground platform. She argued that competing in front of local supporters not only elevates the athletes’ morale but also provides invaluable experience that can translate into future international success.

Minister of Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has publicly expressed his anticipation for more world‑class tournaments in India, noting that such events are vital for strengthening the nation’s sports ecosystem and inspiring the next batch of champions.
