India Makes History With Record 400 Sixes in T20 Cricket

India have created history in T20 international cricket by becoming the first team to hit 400 sixes in a single calendar year. The milestone came in the fifth T20 against New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton, where India scored 191 for eight wickets after batting first. The innings included 11 sixes.

No team had reached 400 sixes in a calendar year in the T20 format before India accomplished it in 2026. The achievement highlights the aggressive approach that has defined Indian batting in the format this year.

New Zealand bore the brunt of India's hitting. India struck 142 sixes against them in 2026, the highest number of sixes hit by one team against a single opponent in a calendar year.

In the broader list of teams, Austria are second with 224 sixes from 24 matches, and West Indies are third with 224 from 21 matches. India's tally came from 40 matches.

Abhishek Sharma has been the most prolific six-hitter for India in 2026, with 86 sixes. Ishan Kishan has 60, and Sanju Samson has 50, placing them second and third respectively.

India lost the toss and were sent in to bat. Their start was disappointing, with Abhishek out for a single run and Samson for four. A 93-run partnership between Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer then rebuilt the innings. Ishan made 61 off 32 balls, and Shreyas made 50 off 23 balls.

Naman Dhir scored 33 off 23 balls, and Nitish Kumar Reddy scored 22 off 17 balls. Adam Milne took the most wickets for New Zealand, claiming four for 19 in four overs.
