Historic End to 24-Year Gold Drought in Asian Games Golf for India

Pranavi Urs’s gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games has finally broken a 24‑year wait for India in the sport. The last Indian gold in Asian Games golf belonged to Shiv Kapur in the men’s individual event at Busan 2002. Pranavi’s victory not only adds a new chapter to the nation’s golf legacy but also marks the fourth overall gold for India in Asian Games golf history.

The earlier golds were secured by Lakshman Singh in 1982, a team title that also featured Rishi Narayan, Amit Luthra and Rajiv Mohata, and subsequent successes in recent editions. Pranavi’s performance was complemented by a strong showing from the women’s team, which clinched silver, continuing a steady rise in Indian golf on the continental stage.

The IGU’s decision to award a ten‑lakh cash prize reflects the significance of this breakthrough and aims to motivate emerging talent across the country.
