India’s Diaspora Unites to Support Athletes with ‘Cheer 4 India’ Campaign
Glasgow, 23 July – A sea of cyclists gathered under a bold “Cheer 4 India” flag as Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya joined the Indian community for a purposeful ride. The event was designed to marshal support for the contingent of Indian sportspeople slated to compete in the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Mandaviya stressed that fitness extends beyond the gym; it is a civic responsibility. He connected the rally to the broader “Fit India Movement”, highlighting how Indian citizens worldwide can champion health and wellbeing. “A thriving nation depends on a fit population,” he said, urging people to rally behind a shared national fitness agenda.
Emphasising the advantages of cycling, the minister described it as a clean, efficient mode of transport that cuts down emissions, eases urban congestion, and offers an accessible avenue for personal health improvement. He called on participants to spread the message that protecting the planet and nurturing athletic excellence go hand in hand.
The Indian High Commissioner to Britain, P. Kumar, echoed these sentiments, noting that the rally mirrors India’s ongoing battle against obesity and its commitment to a healthier future. He pointed to the upcoming 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad as the next major platform for showcasing India's athletic and fitness progress.
