India's Boxing Medal Tally Grows at World U-19 Championship
India's boxers have continued to make headlines at the World Boxing U-19 Championship 2026, which is taking place in Budva, Montenegro. Aditya and Megha Shyokand have moved into the finals, while several others have added to the country's medal count.
Aditya is now in the gold medal contest in the men's 55kg category. He is only the second Indian boxer to reach the final in his weight class. His semifinal win over Azerbaijan's Nihat Gasimov came by a 5:0 margin on the judges' scorecards.
He dominated the bout across all three rounds. The Asian U-19 silver medallist will now face Russia's Islam Magomedov for the top prize.
In the women's 80kg category, Megha Shyokand delivered a clinical performance to beat Kyrgyzstan's Mirim Chinibekova by referee stop contest. The bout was halted after Chinibekova received three counts in the second round.
Megha, who had been in control from the first round, will face Ekaterina Frolova in the final. Her place in the title bout guarantees India at least one bronze medal from the category.
The Indian contingent also saw results on Sunday evening. Harshika competed hard against USA's Lauren Elmore in the women's 65kg semifinal but lost 3:2.
Prachi Tokas lost her women's 80+kg semifinal 1:4 to Russia's Samira Itonova and will return home with a bronze medal.
On Saturday evening, Harshita beat Ireland's Grace Bailey 5:0 in the women's 65kg category, securing India's fourth medal of the championship. Prachi, the Asian U-19 champion, exited in the women's 57kg quarterfinal against China's Yaru Zheng.
