India Blitz 100 in 5 Overs, Beat New Zealand by 6 Wickets

India sealed a six-wicket victory over New Zealand in the third T20 International in Wellington on Tuesday. The win pushed India into a 3-0 lead in the five-match series, which remains unbeatable so far.

New Zealand posted 183 for three at Henry Stadium. India responded in 13.2 overs, using an aggressive batting approach that set several benchmarks for the powerplay.

In the first six overs, India scored 118 runs without losing a wicket. This is the highest powerplay total ever recorded in men's T20 cricket. Romania's 116 for no loss against Serbia had held the record until now, while Australia's 113 for one against Scotland was the third-best.

India also brought up 100 runs in just five overs. This ranks among the fastest T20 hundreds for the team. Romania had reached 100 in 5.2 overs in Sofia in 2021, and South Africa and Australia had each taken 5.3 overs. India surpassed those efforts.

The team reached 50 in 2.2 overs against New Zealand, equalling the fastest 50 in T20 cricket. Papua New Guinea against Vanuatu and Romania against Serbia had also completed 50 in 2.2 overs.

In pursuit of 199, India finished with 40 balls remaining. This is one of the standout performances in men's T20 cricket when chasing 190 or more.

Estonia leads that list after chasing 192 against Cyprus in 2024 with 42 balls left. Among full-member nations, India previously held the top position. Earlier this year in Raipur, India had chased 209 against New Zealand with 28 balls to spare.
