India's Best Ever Para Games Finish: 114 Medals, New Records

New Delhi, October 24: India ended the Asian Para Games 2026 on a high note, winning a total of 114 medals and recording its strongest performance in the Games' history. The tally included 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze medals.

The achievement drew praise from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who congratulated the country's para athletes. Writing on X, he said the tournament had become an important chapter in India's sporting journey due to historic medals, record-breaking performances and inspiring displays of resolve.

Singh applauded the athletes for showing extraordinary courage, discipline and commitment. He also extended his congratulations to coaches, support staff and all those who worked behind the scenes, noting that the entire nation takes pride in their success.

He further expressed hope that the achievements of these athletes would encourage millions of young people to dream boldly and pursue excellence. According to Singh, India's growing sports ecosystem and the determination of its athletes are helping them cross barriers and establish new standards. He linked this progress to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, citing better sports infrastructure, special support for athletes and more chances to compete at the global level.

Records were a major highlight for India. The mixed compound team in para archery posted a new world record score of 1402. Sheetal Devi also set a world record in the women's compound event with 149 points. Sandeep Kumar set a new record in the 400 metres, finishing in 52.28 seconds. Overall, India claimed six medals in archery, including three gold.

Athletics played the largest role in India's campaign, contributing 65 medals. Although India had fielded more than 300 athletes at the previous Asian Para Games, only 168 athletes took part in this edition, and they still delivered a performance that made the country proud. The campaign improved on India's previous Games record of 111 medals.
