India’s Young Badminton Star Sets Sights on Los Angeles 2028 After Silver Finish
Chickballapur, Karnataka – Tanvi Patra, a 15‑year‑old badminton sensation from India, concluded the Youth Olympic Games 2026 in Dakar with a silver medal in the women’s singles event, etching her name in the record books as the first Indian female shuttler to medal at this level.
Patra’s final against Chinese junior champion Zhang Yixin was a roller‑coaster, ending 21‑15, 13‑21, 24‑26. She managed to rescue six match points and even opened three golden opportunities, but the Chinese opponent ultimately prevailed in a nail‑biting third game.
During a press conference, Patra praised the experience of representing her country and stressed that she stayed focused on executing her strokes and minimizing errors despite the high stakes. She admitted that the final’s intensity was unparalleled and that a more assertive mindset could have altered the outcome.
Acknowledging the collective effort behind her success, Patra thanked her parents, coaches, support staff, Team India, and her sponsors for their indispensable role. Looking forward, she outlined a clear path: securing a berth for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics and targeting victories at next year’s Asian Junior and World Junior Championships to further cement her place on the world stage.
