India Eyes Gold as Squash Teams Advance to Final Four in Nagoya

Nagoya, September 30 – India’s squash teams have moved into the semi‑final stage of the 2026 Asian Games, keeping the country’s gold‑medal ambitions very much alive.

The men’s side, current Asian champions, dispatched Kuwait 2‑0 in the quarter‑finals held at the Kinjo Futo Arena. The women’s team posted an equally convincing 2‑0 win over Singapore, sending both squads into the tournament’s last four.

India opened the men’s competition in Pool A with a 3‑0 rout of China. Sunil Kumar Chand, Veer Chotrani and Welvan Senthilkumar all secured straight‑set victories. In the Kuwait clash, Chotrani rebounded after a first‑game loss, turning the match around with a 12‑10, 8‑11, 11‑0, 11‑5 scoreline.

Abhay Singh then dominated Ammar Altamimi 11‑3, 11‑4, 11‑8, ending the tie without needing a decider. Singh previously earned a silver medal in men’s singles after besting Pakistan’s Muhammad Irfan in the semi‑final.

On the women’s front, Tanvi Khanna opened the singles draw against Ao Yeong Wai Lin, fighting back after an even start to win 11‑6, 4‑11, 15‑13, 11‑1. Anahat Singh clinched the second match, sealing the team’s passage to the semi‑finals.

The outcomes guarantee two additional medals for India: silver for Abhay Singh in men’s singles and silver for Anahat Singh in women’s singles, while Josna Chinappa and Welvan Senthilkumar captured bronze in mixed doubles. The teams now aim to convert their semi‑final appearances into gold medals at the Nagoya venue.
