From Spain to Ghana: Inaki Williams’ International Journey Ends

Inaki Williams, the Athletic Bilbao forward who once briefly donned the Spanish shirt, has concluded his international career with Ghana. The 32‑year‑old announced his retirement on September 11 via a heartfelt post on X.

"I feel it is time to finish my journey with the Ghana national team," he wrote, adding that he departs with "happiness, pride and peace of mind" after giving his all each time he pulled on the Ghana jersey.

Williams’ switch to Ghana in 2022 followed a family trip to his mother’s homeland, and he subsequently appeared in 28 games, scoring twice. He participated in the qualifying phases for the 2022 and 2026 World Cups and featured at the 2023 African Cup of Nations.

He praised Ghana for offering more than sport – a sense of home, cultural connection and an unmatched pride. While his on‑field duties end, Williams promised to stand behind the Black Stars as a fan wherever his life takes him.
