Ibrahim Zadran to debut as full‑time T20 skipper ahead of home series

Afghanistan announced that Ibrahim Zadran will take charge as the full‑time captain for the forthcoming T20 series against India. The appointment replaces Rashid Khan, who steps down to focus on his all‑round responsibilities.

Zadran, a prolific middle‑order batsman, will lead a squad that includes returning fast bowler Navin-ul-Haq, veteran all‑rounder Gulbadin Naib and an uncapped wicket‑keeper batsman Noor Rahman. The side also retains a potent spin unit featuring Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Nangeliya Khartak, Mujib Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi.

The three matches will be hosted at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on 13, 15 and 17 September. Afghanistan will set up a preparation camp in India ahead of the series to acclimatise to conditions and finalise strategies.

Afghanistan Cricket Board CEO Nasib Khan praised the balanced composition of the team, emphasizing the nation’s progress in hosting a major cricketing nation for the first time and the squad’s readiness to deliver an impressive performance.
