In a statement released on August 28, Hockey India declared a cash prize of five million rupees for the women’s hockey team that finished fifth at the 2026 Women’s Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands. The campaign saw Salima Tete’s side defeat Germany 3‑1 in the classification match, securing India’s highest placement since 1974. The team’s record featured only one loss, draws with elite nations such as China, England and Australia, and a six‑goal win over South Africa. Secretary‑General Bholanath Singh lauded the squad’s determination and said the award recognises their commitment as they prepare for the Asian Games.
