Since the Commonwealth Games began in 1930, India has emerged as the fourth‑most decorated nation, accumulating a total of 564 medals across 22 editions. The tally breaks down to 203 gold, 190 silver and 171 bronze medals.

India’s first appearance came at the 1934 London Games, where a six‑person team competed in ten athletics contests and one wrestling event. Rashid Anwar’s bronze in the 74 kg freestyle wrestling competition marked the nation’s inaugural Commonwealth Games podium finish.

The most prolific sport for India has been shooting, delivering 135 medals – 63 gold, 44 silver and 28 bronze – a record unmatched by any other discipline in the country’s Commonwealth Games history.

Australia leads the overall medal chart with 2,596 medals (1,001 gold, 832 silver, 763 bronze). England follows with 2,322 medals, and Canada stands third with 1,647 medals. India’s fourth‑place standing reflects a steady rise in performance and depth across multiple sports.
