Historic Victory: Indian Women’s Cricket Clinches 2026 Asian Games Gold

The Indian women’s cricket team made history on September 22, 2026, by securing the gold medal at the Asian Games after a commanding 147‑run triumph over Sri Lanka. The achievement also gave India its first cricket gold at this edition of the Games.

Electing to bat first, India posted 216 for three in a 20‑over innings. Opener Shefali Verma smashed 48 runs off 29 balls, including three sixes. Veteran Mandhana followed with 79 runs, hitting seven sixes, while wicket‑keeper Richa Ghosh added a quickfire 49 not out.

Sri Lanka’s chase collapsed at 69 for five in 15.4 overs, with captain Chamari Athapattu contributing 29 runs. The Indian bowling unit—Diya Sharma, Shefali Verma, Shreyanka Patil and Shree Chawri—each took two wickets.
