Historic Hat‑Trick by Hassan Mahmood Boosts Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi Test

Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium witnessed a landmark performance on October 11 as Bangladesh’s Hassan Mahmood claimed a Test hat‑trick, becoming the nation’s first fast bowler to achieve the rare feat. In the 83rd over, Mahmood struck three consecutive wickets: Ismat Alam was clean‑bowled for a single run, Kase Ahmed fell to a Liton Das catch, and Jiayur Rahman was dismissed for a duck. The spell, which produced five wickets for 55 runs in 21 overs, sparked a dramatic reversal for Bangladesh, who had been trailing after Afghanistan’s solid total of 240. Afghanistan’s captain Rahmat Shah, however, shone with a resilient 105 off 216 balls, peppered with ten fours and two sixes. Supporting bowlers Ibadat Hossain (4/56) and Mehdi Hasan Miraz (1 wicket) complemented Mahmood’s heroics. This accomplishment adds Mahmood to the exclusive list of Bangladeshi bowlers with Test hat‑tricks, following Alok Kapali’s 2003 triumph over Pakistan and Sohag Gazi’s 2013 success against New Zealand, underscoring Bangladesh’s evolving strength in the longest format.
