In a landmark moment for Mumbai cricket, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has introduced the first-ever women’s T20 Mumbai League, building on the success of three men’s seasons. Rohit Sharma, Mumbai’s cricket icon, took center stage on Saturday to unveil the glittering trophies for the forthcoming men’s and women’s tournaments.
Rohit Sharma couldn’t hide his enthusiasm. ‘Watching Mumbai cricket rise fills me with pride,’ he stated. Beyond IPL glamour, the T20 Mumbai League has nurtured numerous young stars who progressed to bigger leagues and international caps. ‘This is where dreams turn real—players prove themselves here first.’
Reflecting on past editions, Rohit commended MCA’s efforts. ‘Organizing this isn’t easy, but they nailed it last time. Now, with women’s teams added, it’s bigger and better.’ The inclusion of three women’s squads marks a pivotal push for gender equality in the sport.
Sayli Satghare, a rising star in women’s cricket, shared her thoughts: ‘MCA has opened doors for us. Mumbai lives and breathes cricket; this league will spot the next big talents from street games to stadiums.’
No official dates yet, but expect action post-IPL, mirroring last year’s thrilling format with Mumbai’s top players. This expansion signals MCA’s commitment to holistic cricket development in the city.
