Historic first women’s Test at Lord’s sees Tammi Beaumont bow out

The historic staging of a women’s Test at Lord’s on Friday opened a new chapter for the sport, pitting India against England in a match that will also be remembered as the swansong of England’s marquee player Tammi Beaumont. The 35‑year‑old announced her retirement from all international formats prior to the encounter, citing a desire to explore life beyond the pitch. Over a decade‑long career, Beaumont represented England in 11 Tests, 140 ODIs and 109 T20Is, compiling 612 Test runs, 4,738 one‑day runs and 1,975 runs in the T20 format. Her contributions include 13 ODI centuries and a double‑hundred in Tests. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, speaking at the pre‑match press briefing, called Beaumont “one of my dear friends” and extended her best wishes for the next phase of Beaumont’s life.
