Lord’s sees historic England batting display; Duckett’s 141 tops scores

On 19 July, England began the final ODI of the India‑England series at Lord’s by winning the toss and batting first.

The side amassed 387 runs for the loss of three wickets, a score that surpasses all previous ODI totals recorded at the ground.

Left‑handed openers Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell forged a 192‑run opening stand in 30.1 overs, breaking the previous England‑India first‑wicket partnership record of 160 set by Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow in 2019.

Duckett’s unbeaten 141 off 135 balls – featuring a six and 18 fours – is the highest individual ODI innings at Lord’s and ranks second only to Andrew Strauss’s 158 against India in 2011.

He also becomes the sixth English opening batsman, after Dennis Amiss, Graham Gooch, Graham Wood, Marcus Trescothick and Elliott Cook, to register centuries at Lord’s in both Tests and ODIs.

Jacob Bethell added 91 runs, Joe Root remained not out on 74, and Jos Buttler contributed 41* in a rapid cameo.

England’s 387‑run total therefore stands as the new record for ODI scores at Lord’s, highlighting a historic batting performance.
