Historic Win: Austria’s Pair Secures First All‑Austrian Masters 1000 Doubles Victory

In a landmark accomplishment for Austrian tennis, Lucas Midler and Neil Oberleitner captured the Shanghai Masters doubles championship without dropping a set. The duo dispatched Francisco Cabral and Jeeje Tracy 6‑3, 6‑4 in the final, completing a rapid 66‑minute match.

Midler and Oberleitner broke serve once in each set and held all of their own service games, a performance underpinned by a 96 % success rate on first‑serve points, as recorded by the ATP. Their dominance continued the streak they began in Tokyo, where they advanced to the quarter‑finals, and demonstrated the chemistry that has developed in just their second joint tournament.

The pair become the inaugural all‑Austrian team to win a Masters 1000 doubles title since the series was inaugurated in 1990. The victory represents Midler’s 14th ATP doubles crown and Oberleitner’s second at tour level, following a Winston‑Salem triumph with Petr Nolej in August.

Oberleitner, 27, expressed excitement about translating potential into tangible success on one of the sport’s biggest stages and signaled his intent to keep the winning formula alive in upcoming events.
