Historic 250-run knock by Ishan Kishan sets new benchmark in Dalip Trophy

In a historic display at the MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium, Chennai, East Zone’s captain Ishan Kishan carved his name into Dalip Trophy folklore by scoring an unbeaten 250 runs against South Zone on September 7.

Kishan’s innings lasted 301 balls, featuring 27 boundaries and 7 sixes, and culminated in a double century reached in 270 deliveries. The left‑handed star retired after a monumental partnership of 230 runs with Kumar Kushagra, who contributed 101 runs.

The achievement surpasses Riddhiman Saha’s 170‑run effort in the 2012 final, making Kishan the third East Zone batsman to score a double century and the first to do so in a Dalip Trophy final. He also became the seventh player overall to breach the 200‑run barrier in a final.

As a wicket‑keeper‑batsman, Kishan broke Dinesh Karthik’s final‑match record of 183 runs, establishing a new high for keepers in the tournament. His captaincy combined with batting prowess marks a first in Dalip Trophy history.

Additional contributions came from Shikhar Mohan (85), Abhimanyu Ishwaran (72) and Vaibhav Suryavanshi (44), pushing East Zone’s total to 626 for six at the end of day two.

Kishan’s monumental knock not only secured the trophy but also set a new standard for future generations of Indian cricketers.
