Henderson Hails Quick Start in Chelsea Home Win

Chelsea midfielder Jordan Henderson has called his goal in a home match for the club a proud and emotional achievement, saying the moment carried special meaning after a long period away from competitive football.

Henderson's start at Stamford Bridge has been impressive. Earlier this month, he struck twice on his home debut. He then scored again in Chelsea's 5-1 win over Bournemouth, netting within the first two minutes of play to give his side an early lead.

In a special interview with the club's matchday programme ahead of the Premier League meeting with Manchester United, Henderson reflected on the feeling of finally making his mark. He said that such moments are impossible to fully prepare for, particularly when a player has spent time out of the game before arriving at Chelsea.

“You can never be completely ready for something like this,” he said. “It was a very emotional moment for me, because I had been out of football for a long time and then I had to wait a little to get going at Chelsea.”

The midfielder also said he had hoped to have an immediate effect since joining the club. He admitted he was pleased that his expectations had been matched on the pitch. “This was a big moment for me personally,” he said. “From the time I came here a few months ago, I was dreaming of a good beginning. The best part was that it happened within the first few minutes.”

Henderson further discussed his evolving role in midfield under head coach Jabi Alonso. He pointed to his double pivot partnership with Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo as the biggest change from his previous roles. While acknowledging the difference, he insisted that Caicedo's quality had made the adjustment far easier.

“I feel it is a bit different from my past experiences, where I am playing the double pivot role with Caicedo,” Henderson said. “But when you play with someone like Moi, he makes things very easy. He is a world-class midfielder and perhaps one of the best players in the world in his position. That is why I try to help him and build a good relationship with him. Playing alongside him makes my job easier.”
