Head’s 123 at Perth fuels Australia’s push for a busy Test schedule

In the second innings of the Perth Ashes Test, Travis Head stepped in after Usman Khawaja’s injury and posted a rapid 123 from 83 balls. The innings was pivotal in Australia’s two‑day win over England and set the tone for the rest of the series, where Head added centuries in Adelaide and Sydney, concluding the series with 629 runs.

The Australian board’s upcoming calendar is packed, with the possibility of 20 Tests, or 21 if the World Test Championship final is reached. Head believes his batting style is well‑suited for these demands, even though he does not view himself as a classic opening batsman. He said, “I’m comfortable with my game. I know I have to work hard against the new ball and I will make mistakes, but that’s fine.”

His achievements this season – 1,437 runs across all formats – earned him a repeat Alan Border Medal, receiving 153 votes against Alex Carey’s 152, underscoring his rising stature in Australian cricket.
