Headingley Test Stalled by Showers; Pakistan 171, England 112/2

Leeds, Aug 19 – Persistent showers forced the second day’s first session of the England‑Pakistan Test at Headingley to be abandoned. At lunch, England found themselves 59 runs behind after Pakistan’s 171.

Pakistan were dismissed for 171 after 48.1 overs. Early wickets fell at six runs, but a crucial 91‑run partnership between Abdullah Shafique (61) and Imam‑ul‑Haq (42) steadied the innings before both were dismissed.

England’s reply saw Ben Duckett (15) and Emilio (33) add 36 before the first wicket fell. Jordan Cox then forged a 64‑run partnership with captain Joe Root, who remained unbeaten on 37.

The bowling effort was shared: Ollie Robinson (5/51 in 18 overs) and Josh Tong (5/46 in 9.1 overs) took all ten wickets.

With the weather still uncertain, both teams will need to adapt quickly when play resumes.
