Bangladesh’s quick bowler Hassan Mahmud achieved a landmark hat‑trick in the Test against Afghanistan, becoming the first Bangladeshi fast bowler to do so in the longest format.

The hat‑trick came early in Afghanistan’s second innings, removing Ismat Alam, Qais Ahmad and Jiyaur Rahman Akbar on consecutive deliveries of the 83rd over. Mahmud finished the innings with five wickets.

In the same match, Afghanistan’s captain Rahmat Shah etched his name in the record books by scoring 105 not out, his first Test century and the inaugural hundred by an Afghan player on debut.

Bangladesh had posted 346 in the first innings, guided by a 124‑run partnership between Shadman Islam and Tanzid Hasan Tamim. Afghanistan were bowled out for 240, leaving Bangladesh a 106‑run advantage.

Bangladesh’s second innings yielded 223 for six, with a decisive 159‑run stand between Shanto Rahim and Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 82 and 81 respectively. The partnership pushes the lead to 329 runs.

Afghanistan’s bowlers, led by Mohammad Sami’s four wickets, could not turn the tide, while Bangladesh’s bowlers shared the wickets, with Ibadat Husain taking four and Mehedi Hasan Miraz one.

The match now appears to be heavily tilted in Bangladesh’s favour as they head towards a likely victory.
