Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faces an early challenge in IPL 2026 preparations with Wanindu Hasaranga’s withdrawal due to a lingering hamstring injury. Cricket director Tom Moody revealed on Thursday that the team will unveil a replacement player within 48 hours maximum.
The announcement came post-match against KKR in Kolkata, where Moody underscored the franchise’s proactive approach. ‘Hasaranga won’t be with us, so we’re lining up a replacement. Expect news soon – within 24 to 48 hours,’ Moody told reporters.
Buzz indicates George Linde, the South African left-arm spinner, could fill the void. IPL debutant Linde has T20 credentials from international and franchise circuits. He claimed one wicket in a bilateral series versus New Zealand recently and has competed in high-profile tournaments like The Hundred, MLC, PSL, and SS20 in the last 12 months. His T20 World Cup experience adds further depth.
Acquired for INR 2 crore, Hasaranga’s IPL participation was scuttled by a February hamstring tear during Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup opener. Unable to clear SLC’s fitness protocols, he couldn’t secure the necessary NOC.
Over his IPL stint, Hasaranga scalped 46 wickets across 37 games at 24.32 average, boasting a five-for. His journey included RCB (2021-2023) and RR last year.
With the IPL 2026 auction dust settling, LSG’s swift replacement strategy signals intent to maintain bowling strength, keeping supporters optimistic for a competitive campaign.
