Government Grants Land and Housing to Cricket Star Siraj as DSP

Hyderabad, July 20 – The Telangana government has allocated a 600 sq yd plot on Road No‑78 in Jubli Hills to Mohammad Siraj, a former Indian cricket fast bowler who was appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police in October 2024. The land allocation follows the state’s decision to reward Siraj for his role in India’s 2024 ICC T20 World Cup victory, a promise made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

In August 2024, the state cabinet approved Group‑1 DSP positions for Siraj and world‑champion boxer Nikhat Zareen, prompting an amendment to the Telangana (Regulation of Appointments in Public Services and Rationalisation of Staff Pattern and Pay Structure) Act, 1994. The amendment facilitated the inclusion of sports personalities in the senior police cadre.

During a courtesy meeting with DGP C.V. Anand, Sir Siraj’s appointment and the land grant were discussed alongside the broader welfare schemes for police personnel. The meeting also highlighted the ongoing health‑care plan that has served over 33,000 police staff and their families in 2025, with expenditures reaching more than ₹181 crore.

Anand affirmed that the state will continue to extend similar benefits, including education loans, marriage assistance, and merit‑based scholarships, to officers who transition from sports to public service.
