Gold Medal Win Inspires Young Girls Across India, Says President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu used her official X platform to declare the Indian women’s hockey squad a source of inspiration for the country’s youth. After the team’s 1‑0 victory over China in the Asian Games final, the President highlighted how the gold medal, secured at Gifu’s Green Stadium, showcases determination, talent and relentless effort.

She wrote that the athletes have become role models for “countless young girls” nationwide, encouraging them to pursue sports and aim high. The President also praised the historic nature of the win – the first Asian Games gold in women’s hockey since 1982 – and noted the automatic qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics as a bonus that underscores the team’s excellence.

The statement was echoed by senior officials who emphasized the significance of the achievement for women’s sport in India, urging the nation to celebrate the champions and support the next generation of athletes.
