Maxwell made his ODI debut in 2012. In his career, he played 149 ODIs, scoring 3990 runs. During this, 4 centuries, 23 half -centuries and 1 double century came out of his bat. He also contributed significantly with the ball and took 77 wickets, with his best bowling figure 4/40. He also caught 91 catches in fielding.
History was created in World Cup 2023
Maxwell’s most memorable innings came in the 2023 ODI World Cup, when he gave the team an impossible victory by hitting an unbeaten 201 run against Afghanistan. This innings is counted among the greatest innings of cricket history.
What did Maxwell say on retirement?
Talking about ‘Final Word Podcast’, Maxwell said, “I spoke to the selection committee chief George Bailey. We discussed about the 2027 World Cup and I told him clearly that I could not see myself there. Now is the time to give opportunity to new players in my place.”
He further said, “I never wanted to play selfish. Until I felt that I was able to give my best to the team, but now the body is not supporting the same. I felt that I was disappointing the team.”
Maxwell has a strike rate of 126 in ODIs, which comes second in history. Ahead of him is only Andre Russell of West Indies.
