Gill Leads India, Husain Shines for Bangladesh, Smith Dominates for New Zealand

In a competitive month of international cricket, the ICC has shortlisted three players for its Player of the Month award – Shubman Gill (India), Mosaddek Husain (Bangladesh) and Nathan Smith (New Zealand).

Gill’s consistency was evident as he anchored India’s batting line‑up in both formats. He recorded a resilient 126 in the lone Test at New Chandigarh and then produced a rapid 84* in Dharamshala followed by a gritty 154 in Lucknow. Despite a painful muscle cramp, Gill’s quick scoring ensured India’s clean sweep of the series, earning him the Player of the Series accolade.

Mosaddek Husain’s comeback narrative captured headlines after a four‑year absence from the international stage. His unbeaten 86 in the first ODI against Australia, combined with two crucial wickets, set the tone for Bangladesh’s 2‑1 series triumph. Husain topped the run charts with 157 runs and was rightfully named Player of the Series.

Nathan Smith emerged as the leading bowler in England’s 2‑1 Test series win. Claiming 16 wickets, including a six‑wicket haul at Lord’s where he also contributed a 70‑run knock, Smith’s performance was instrumental in dismantling England’s batting order. His all‑round display secured him the Player of the Series award.

The ICC will now decide which of these high‑impact performances deserves the June Player of the Month trophy.
