Ganesha Manirathnam Wins Archery Bronze, Sailing Duo Capture Silver
A bright day for Indian shooters and sailors arrived at the Asian Games 2026 as Ganesha Manirathnam clinched a bronze medal in the men’s individual compound archery event. Competing against Vietnam’s Kang Duc Dang, Ganesha posted a score of 149‑144, earning a place on the podium and taking India’s archery medal count to four.
President Draupadi Murmu posted a congratulatory note, lauding Ganesha’s precision under pressure and his contribution to India’s gold in the compound team event earlier in the competition. She wished him continued success and highlighted the growing stature of Indian archers on the Asian stage.
In the water, the men’s skiff sailing competition saw Prince Noble and Manu Francis win a silver medal, marking India’s first sailing medal at this edition of the Games. Their performance was praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who highlighted their “skill, steadfast resolve and remarkable improvement” over previous outings.
Both the President and the Prime Minister emphasized how these achievements reflect India’s expanding sporting horizon, encouraging greater participation in archery and sailing among the youth and signaling the nation’s commitment to nurturing talent in diverse disciplines.
